Breakfast at the hotel - Travel by car from Phnom Penh to Kratie. Kratie is famous for its Dolphins Irrawaddy, whose about sixty specimens there is. The road which follows the river is lined with traditional Khmers houses rather old, and to walk is there very pleasant. Overnight at the hotel in Kratie.

This morning, we drive from Kratie to Stung Treng. Stung Treng marks Cambodia's northern border with Laos and the point where the Mekong River enters Cambodia after swirling its way around the Four Thousand Islands of southern Laos. Originally a part of Laos, Stung Treng switched to Cambodian ownership during the French period. The province holds considerable promise for those with an adventurous spirit (and a fair amount of free time) as there are a number of riverine trips that can be undertaken, along with exploring the western bank of the Mekong. We explore around the town. Overnight at the hotel in Stung Streng.

Today you will cross into Laos by a local speed boat to the Cambodia - Laos border. A stunning boat trip of about an hour and a half over a deserted part of the Mekong River will bring you to Dong Kralor the border. You must have Lao visa beforehand! On completion of immigration formalities. The guide in the Laotian side who will pick up you and transfer to Khong Island. Khong Island is part of Siphandone, Laotian for '4000 islands'. During the dry season thousands of shoals and small islands appear due to the descending water level, giving the impression of a vast area of islets. Overnight at hotel in Khong Island.

Morning, cruise along the backwaters to explore Si Phan Don. Visit the surrounding islands of Done Ket and Done Som for a glimpse into the traditional lifestyle of the fishermen. Continue to Done Khone Island. Lunch at local restaurant in Ban Khone. Then visit Done Khone Island and hike along its ancient railway built by the French in 1897 in order to bypass the powerful rapids when transporting goods from Cambodia. Continue to Sumphamith Waterfall. In the dry season, the Irrawaddy Dolphins, one of the world’s rarest large mammal species, congregate at the base of the rapids to hunt the fish that survive in the deep pools. Spend a relaxing hour watching these extremely shy and endangered freshwater dolphins. Return by boat to Khong Island. Overnight at hotel in Khong Island

This morning, departure for Pakse. Along the way you will visit Wat Phou. This Khmer temple was built in the 5th century thus predating Angkor Wat in Cambodia.  In 2002 Wat Phou was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.  
Take afternoon flight to Luang Prabang – Meet driver and transfer to hotel for check-in. Free at leisure and explore the Night Market, where you can browse through a lovely selection of handmade textiles. Overnight at hotel in Luang Prabang.

This is a full day trip combining a rafting tour with sightseeing and an exciting elephant ride to/from Tad Sae Waterfall (with an alternative route in dry season). After pick up from your hotel we proceed to the Adventure and Elephant camp. After crossing a small river you will be introduced to some Asian elephants and venture on a 1hr – 1 ½ hr elephant ride through forest, plantations and fields. The ride concludes at the Tad Sae waterfalls. (In the dry season we ride on a village trail) After visiting the waterfall, lunch is served. A relaxing 30-minute rafting tour takes us back to the resort. The evening is free at your leisure. Overnight at Lao Spirit Resort.
Day 11
Luang Prabang: Pak Ou Cave

After breakfast we head back towards Luang Prabang to enjoy a short-guided tour of the city's oldest temple, Wat Sene and the magnificent Wat Xieng Thong where you can see the impressive “tree of life” mosaic set in colored glass. We then board an upstream cruise on the Mekong River, which gives us a panoramic view of the tranquil countryside. We’ll make sure to stop at the Pak Ou Caves, sanctuaries consisting of two large caverns, both repositories for thousands of Buddha images. We will also stop at a few villages during the day, including Ban Xanghai where the local rice wine is produced. We return to Luang Prabang in the afternoon after Ban Xang Khong and Ban Xieng Lek - small villages well known for silk weavings and Saa (jute) Papermaking. Overnight at the hotel in Luang Prabang.
