Two words “Love Market” has been become the way of delta people’s understanding as a social category of love, marriage. We can explain these words but having no exhaustive definition for these two assembled words.

54 ethnic groups in Vietnam have different color of cultures. The abundance of all groups’ cultural life is likened Lo Lo girl's dresses, colorful but still harmonious. Extraordinary beauty! One of “color on girl's dresses” is “love market” of some ethnic groups in the Northern mountain area.

We can explain these words but having no exhaustive definition for these two assembled words. But “The Love” here no one sells, no one buys, lovers come to this market to date and escort each other. Therefore, simple way to understand was born: “Love market” is a place for dating, emotion giving and receiving, love gestures performing according to the customary of each local/region.

The most widely known “Love market” area is Love Market in Sapa - an attractive destination for tourists both domestic and foreign. This small town is located deeply in temperate climate, cool weather all year round. There are some years in winter, snow falls down creating romantic scenery and attracting lots of tourists. Every week, the Love market will be held once time on Saturday evening. This is the market of the Dao. From the afternoon, on the street and churchyard, many women wear red head scarves and splendid dress with embroidered pattern, silver bracelets, silver buttonholes, small coins on shirt.

One more attractive thing is the ringing existed follow every step from the lovely beams of copper rattles which is attached on the head scarves. Their love’s object is the Dao men who are in Cham outfit, same color scarf, watch on hand and radio cassette on shoulder. In the other corner, several men crowd around a girl, they put their cassette closed to the girl to record the confessed songs in ethnic language. Seeing a stranger, the shy girl bows head or puts hand to cover her face, but still sings with trembling tone.

Then the night downs, the love calling sounds is polysyllabic after the bushes and on tall mountains. It is the sound of leaf pan-pipe, lips pan-pipe which is floated in the night. Custom of the Dao does not prevent married man and women to find love partners. The girls are at 13, 14 can follow her sisters to get acquainted.

Here, the young and beautiful girls are often paid attention by many guys. They surround and open cassettes for girls listening or flirting and giving souvenir gifts. Girls who do not like the gift, will run away and be hold hands to retain. This action is called "pull" - a typical expression for the drastic courtship. Until the time "accepting" a guy, girl will put into that guy’s hand an engagement object. It may be a ring, a bracelet or a comb ... The crowd will talk so loudly “oh oh” and spread out. The girl comes back with her girlfriends. A moment later and quiet back, two or three girls will accompany this girl to "be entrusted" to the man she has chosen. Then love couple go to where only row of Samu trees know.
