1. "Check-in" U-Bein Bridge

Serving as the world longest wooden bridge, it is not surprising that U Bein is one of the most visited places in Mandalay. At lunch time, you will witness an impressive situation that hundreds monks in the Amarapura walk on the bridge. Some people believe that, if a young couple hand in hand walk through the bridge, they will be together for long.

2. Visiting a gold leaf workshop 

There are many gold leaf workshops in the old capital of Myanmar, in which King Galon is one of the most ancient and famous ones in Mandalay. Visiting this place, you can experience the process of making gold leaves. People there in King Galon are all very friendly and enthusiastic, so you may get a chance to hammering on the gold packages. This experience is free but of course not a simple job.

3. Visiting Snake Temple

Snake temple is also known as Yadana Labamuni Hsu-taungpye Paya temple. The temple dates back from the mid of 11th Century but it is not until early 70s that the snakes appeared in the temple. It is said that, there were 3 big pythons from a forest coming to sleep around the Buddhist statue. From that time on, those python do not go anywhere but stay there and have become the divine pythons which are respected and take care by all the monks. At present, when visiting the temple, you will be joining in the python washing festival taking place at 11 am every day. Touching the pythons is said to bring lucky.

4. Sunrise in Mandalay Hill

With the height of 230m, Mandalay Hill is considered the most perfect place in the city to see the sunrise. Please remember to dress politely when coming here as the place you are sitting to admire the dawn belongs to the campus of a temple.

5. Enjoying street foods 

Mandalay which is nearby Shan is the land of some excellent traditional foods. Thus, it is an ideal place to enjoy the local cuisine. Served along with some spices like garlic, chili and pepper, the rice of Shan people has become the perfect option to anyone who is interested in spicy foods. Prepare for travelling to Myanmar

  • Comfortable outfit, suitable for the weather. Going to the plateau requires a coat. You sould bring a wide-brimmed hat to cover the rain and rain coat (if going in the summer).
  • Slippers should be worn to conform to local customs and to easy to visits temples.
