Enjoy an ancient and magnificent Bagan of Myanmar (Burma)

Bagan used to be the capital of Myanmar during 230 years. At present, there are more than 2,000 temples in Bagan. These remaining relics can be compared to the two famous temple complexes in Cambodia and Java island, Indonesia namely Angkor Wat and Borodur respectively.

Bagan stretches through the dry delta near by the beautiful river of Ayeyarwady in the central area of Myanmar. The weather here is said to be as hot as fire. The special thing is that the very large number of temples and pagodas in Bagan are gathered in the area of just 42 kilometers square.

How much money you need when come to Bagan?

  • You can spend USD or Burmese kyats (MMK) in Bagan. However, your US dollar must be new (no stains, no wrinkles, no folds, no tear) to be accepted.
  • If you bring USD, you can exchange money at the airport (the best rate), or at the banks of Myanmar. DO NOT exchange money at hotels, restaurants or shops because the exchange rate is not good. A small tip for you is that you will get better rates if you exchange US dollars with USD 100 denominations, instead of giving smaller denominations.
  • Alternatively, you can use a credit card or withdraw money at ATMs near hotels.
